A Weekend with Samma & Music Class

Samma came down for a long weekend just to get some special Malynn & Jack time. I had big plans for her visit: Children's Museum, lunch Downtown, spray park, swimming pool, breakfast bagels, nature walks, cookout dinner on the deck... We didn't get to do it all, but that's no surprise. I tend to over-plan (teachers do that). But we got to do plenty!

Friday morning the kids showed off their Lego skills and...

...shared their favorite library books with Samma. (The kids are pretty lucky to have so many adults who are willing to read favorite books over, and over, and over!) Then we were off to the grocery store, and these days the kids like to walk more than ride in the cart, so that's always a bit of an adventure. The day ended full of excitement with all the great friends who came for dinner (see previous post)!

 

Saturday we were busy playing at home in the morning, but we did make it out later for a lunch date. And, that night we got to do our cookout dinner on the deck.

I have to make special mention of a fun little thing the kids have learned from Samma. Whenever we're doing or talking about something we like we'll say, "Who likes __(insert thing we like)__?" Then everyone responds by raising a hand and saying, "I do!" or "I do, too!!" Jack especially loves doing it, and Malynn thought it was pretty hilarious to raise both hands. :)

Sunday we went to our bagel place for breakfast sandwiches and then the pool. It was a little cool for the pool. The kids ended up sitting wrapped up in towels, eating honeydew, and watching Mommy and Daddy do jumps, cannon balls, and dives off the board. (What a cool Mommy and Daddy!)

We kicked off Monday with a little nature walk. We heard and saw the big cows on the farm behind us and went on a hunt for the elusive "red bird" (Cardinal) that flew by us one time, never to be seen again!

Then it was time for music class. Both grandmas have been eager to make it to a music class. It's definitely a special thing, because the kids have learned a lot of songs and sign language from it, and several of their best friends are in the group (Sophie, Evan, Dylan, May, and Liam just started coming, too!). Today Samma got to come and share in this precious time.

 

Both kids are still pretty tentative, but can you tell which one is loosening up with it the most?

Their hesitation often puts them in the back of the group when it's time to get a stuffed animal or shaker, but they are a couple of the youngest kids in the group (It's for 2-5 yr olds.).

 

We do all sorts of fun things, like songs that get us crawling, swimming, marching, flying, jumping, and twirling!

Jack really loved this alligator puppet that he got for the "Old MacDonald had a Farm" song.

The musician, Pam, keeps us singing and dancing with our friends the whole time!
