Cars

Samma found these amazing car toys on Craig's List for $5 a piece!! (Way to go Samma!) They are a new regular part of our routine. After dinner Jack and Malynn get "car time" while Mommy has a chance to clean up the kitchen. It is incredible how quickly they figured out how to maneuver in them. They can get into narrow spaces and back out. They can turn themselves around on a dime. Going backwards is a breeze. Heading around the island like a parade is super fun, but the best is getting going really fast across the big open space! They chase the dogs, push things around like the dog bowls, and love going under Mommy and Daddy's legs.

Happy 9 Month Old Birthday!
I couldn't choose between these pictures of Jack. They're both so precious!

Pillow Land

One of our new games is what I call Pillow Land. While the babies are napping, I set up the couch pillows and toys around the room. Then when they wake up they have a whole new environment to crawl around and explore.
Here's Jack getting one of the ka-booms.
Here's Malynn practicing crawling up onto the pillows.

Keeping things fresh is good for them and for Mommy!

Learning to Share

If Malynn and Jack are playing they are nearly always playing together.
When one of them makes a choice (like crawling over to the music table seen here) then the other one isn't far behind. They are getting really good about figuring out how to share the space nicely.
Talk about sharing space!
Getting all the books off the shelf is always a two man job.
They're even sharing the play yard nicely...well, at least for a while. Eventually Jack ends up rolling onto Malynn, or tackling her, or sitting on her. Malynn is working on her tollerence. And, Jack is working on being gentle -he just loves lovin' on his sister SO MUCH! He's usually going after her because he wants to give her a big sloppy kiss on the head or hug on whatever arm, head, shoulder, or leg he can get a hold of. Super sweet!
"Look Mom, we're doing it nicely like you said."
It helps to have two of a lot of our favorite items.
Funny that I have a picture of Malynn climbing over Jack, because as I mentioned above, Jack is usually the one crawling all over Malynn. I think the difference is that Malynn gets upset so I have to swoop in and rescue her before I can get a picture, whereas Jack loves the rough and tumble play.
I have to get a better picture of this to share. This is the new barrier between the family room and the kitchen and the babies crawl over, pull themselves up, and peak over to see what's going on whenever I leave the room. Those two little heads peaking over is irresistibly adorable!

Things We Like

We like the wind in our hair.
Big guys like playing with big stuff, like Mommy's slipper.
Daddy's shoulders are always great, especially when you find an ear to hold on to!
Jack likes playing under things like the music table.
Maybe working on cars is in his future.

Happy Valentine's Day

We wore our red for Valentine's Day!
Moments like this where they are standing together don't last long, because someone falls down and often pulls the other one down with them. We're working on that. :)
Playing with a great new toy! (Thanks Amita)
Playing with other great new toys! (Thanks Grand)

Look Out World...

...here we come! Malynn and Jack are doing so many new things so fast that I can't keep up with documenting it all! Here are just a few of their latest big moves.
Malynn has always loved standing up and now she can do it on her own when she has something to hold on to. Standing over here at the exer-saucer is a favorite spot.
-side note: How adorable is she in this sweet flowered top with her little blue jeans!?!
Jack is all over the place! His crawling is textbook perfect and getting fast!
Both babies have a lot of upper body strength and are quickly figuring out how to pull themselves up on things. Jack found the stairs!! Time to get the baby gate out.
I no longer have to get toys out for Jack and Malynn to play with. They have become fully capable of crawling over and getting out whatever their little hearts desire.
Both babies have recently started really enjoying trying to walk while holding Mommy and Daddy's hands, so we got a couple of these walk-ride toys (Thanks Samma). Jack and Malynn both love it, but play with it in very different ways. Jack likes crawling over to it and pushing it around like a big car. Malynn likes standing with it and trying to take steps.
She even challenges herself by trying to do it with only one hand!

Ka-Booms

We got these great soft blocks for Christmas (Thanks Grand) and one thing that never gets old is knocking down the little houses and towers that Mommy and Daddy build. Every time one gets toppled we say, "Ka-Boom!"
Before
After
Not only do Malynn and Jack crawl around to get the ka-booms, but we've even increased the level of difficulty by putting them in places they have to reach for...
...no problem. :)

No Shortage of Fun

Even though our health issues have kept us homebound for the better part of January and into February, there has been no shortage of fun!
Jack has become extremely mobile. He was already getting from point A to B with relative ease, but now he's climbing over, under, and behind things all the time.
...and LOVING it!
He is definitely our little explorer.
Malynn is also getting around more -still mostly commando crawling. She can go after whatever toys she wants, and she always feels it's best when you can have a toy in both hands. When she's sitting up and holding something in both hands she likes to hold them up and talk about it.
She's doing her best to do that here from the belly position. :)
They are making new discoveries every day. It's so fun to watch them rediscover familiar things once they have new abilities. Jack has been pulling the diaper packages off the shelf for weeks, but now he can pull the diapers out of the packages! (Don't worry there's close supervision around this plastic bag situation.) Here he's telling me all about how he got the bag through the ring. Very cool!
This play gym has been a favorite since day 1, and it's playtime role has really evolved. These days Malynn and Jack love pulling it around, and when it ends up tipped over like this it serves as a fort!
It's hard to see here, but Malynn has the biggest smile as she delights in playing in her first fort.
(No doubt the first of many!)
This is just a hint of another post I'm working on about the new ways the twins are playing together. Plus, I can't resist pictures of babies grabbing their toes.
