"Mommy, it's not a pumpkin."

We got our pumpkins a couple weeks ago, thanks to a stop at a local pumpkin patch with Grand and Ottar. Today was finally the day of transformation...from pumpkin to jack-o-lantern!

Ever since Malynn and Jack have been learning about the iconic elements of autumn and Halloween, anticipation has been building for the day when they would finally get to make their own jack-o-lanterns, and today was the day!

Malynn chose a round top.
Jack chose a zig-zag top.

Next, scoop the goop time. Neither Jack nor Malynn were interested in using their hands, so we used a nice big spoon.

Seeing the goop scooped out of the pumpkins was pretty amazing.
Malynn noticed how the pumpkins looked a lot like cantaloupe on the inside.

The kids picked out which face stencil they wanted and helped tape it on and trace.

Once the carving started, I kept referring to them as pumpkins. Jack and Malynn would say, "Mommy, it's not a pumpkin. It's a jack-o-lantern now!"

I have to admit that the finished products were really quite good!

Malynn and Jack helped put the candles inside (pre-fire of course).

After bath and pjs it was finally dark enough to go see the jack-o-lanterns in their full-glow glory!

Ok Halloween, we're ready now!
