We love dirt!

Sometimes you just have to give in to the moment.
We were running around outside and the kids found this dirt area under the deck. First I tried to keep them from going under there at all...that wasn't going to fly. So they both ended up playing in the dirt.
Everything was still under control. They weren't getting too dirty, and they were just doing a little digging and scooping. After all, feeling the dirt between your toes and doing some discovery with found items like an old lid and a great stick is pretty awesome. But, then they wanted to put the dirt on Ember. I had to put the kibosh on that.
Then they wanted to put the dirt on themselves (see Malynn's leg above). I tried to say, "No, no, let's not get that dirty." Again, futile.
By the time they were putting the dirt inside their clothing (see Jack's sock above), I had decided, "Okay, you win, this is what we're doing, everything is washable, so let's do it!" Dirt was on and in everything when it was all said and done. But we just stripped down before going inside the house and went straight up to the bath. As Pete the Cat would say, "It's all good."

  1. These children are scientists! Just look at the concentration on their faces and the way they're figuring it all out. Ember, on the other hand, probably won't have a quiet, cool place to get away from it all anymore now that they've discovered this wonderful place under the deck.
