We have a new weekly activity...music class! Well, it's a little less formal than that, but that's what we call it. It's a toddler sing-along group that a local gal offers just down the road from us, and it's awesome! There were 5 other kids there, and the small group size was very inviting. Two of the other kids there were boy/girl twins! The songs were so well suited for Jack & Malynn. Some of the songs got the kids jumping, crawling, marching, etc., one taught us musical terms, we got to use shakers with another one, there were animal puppets to act out Old McDonald, and we did sign language with the ABC song and The More We Get Together. Malynn and Jack were both very tentative for this first time (i.e., sat in my lap the whole time), but they were playing attention, smiling, and they got up to get their shakers and puppets when it was their turn. Malynn blew us away that night when we did The More We Get Together for Daddy and she actually chimed in on some of the words and signs! And Jack has started working really hard on the ABC song, which I'm sure this class has helped encourage him to do. We'll hear him over the monitor when he wakes up saying, "a-b-C, a-b-C," and we loved it when for the first time we heard, "a-b-C, e-f-G."
There's a playground right next to the building where we meet for the sing-along, so afterwards we got to play with a few of the kids who stuck around. When they left, we had a picnic lunch before heading home. I think we have a new little Monday morning routine in place!
