Our First Library Story Hour

The local library system has a lot to offer, and Malynn & Jack have been enjoying a regular library day with Melody, but the programs tend to be for preschool age and older kids, plus the few things they've had that would be appropriate have been during a nap time...until today! Melody was asking about the programs and events at one of the local libraries and found out that they were having a one-time story time, that even 1 year-olds could attend with an adult, that worked with our nap times. Yay! The kids got to enjoy a few stories and songs with a good sized group of toddlers.

It was really something when they turned out the lights and projected pictures on the wall to go with one of the stories! (That was a new one for Malynn and Jack. Once Melody reassured them and showed them where to look they were fine, but Malynn did keep her hand on Melody's knee just to be sure -so sweet!) Melody also shared that it was a little hillarious when pictures of kitties showed up on the wall and Malynn let out a big "mow." So cute!

They finished the session with a little craft project to go with one of the stories. They read about polar bears. So the kids got to use white chalk to draw snow on a piece of blue paper.

Malynn decided she wanted snow all over her paper. (That seems to be part of her style -she always gets a sense of the full space she's working with when coloring or drawing and gets a plan for how to use all of it!)

Then it was time to glue on the snow flakes and polar bears. Melody said that they picked up and used glue sticks like they'd been doing it their whole lives (though this was actually their first time using glue sticks!). Notice the squiggles in the bottom left of Jack's picture? -We're pretty sure he was signing his name!

Apparently they were model kiddos throughout the entire time. When other kids were running around during the stories, or being loud during the songs, or needing redirecting during the craft, Malynn & Jack sat politely and engaged appropriately the whole time. I am truly a lucky, lucky mom to have such wonderful children!
