Auxiliary Nursery

This is where Malynn and I have been sleeping for a few nights....
...this story really begins a long time ago. Malynn is a paci girl, and she always needs her paci to settle off to sleep. We've been warned of the issues we could face as a result of her dependence, but from day 1 she has really needed a paci. (The first night in the hospital after she was born the nurse brought her to us and asked, "So how do you all feel about pacifiers?, because this child has been working on sucking my finger off for hours!") Her paci need really hadn't been a problem until just before the Holidays when we found ourselves becoming slaves to the paci. For some reason she couldn't get back to sleep without it. Instead of letting her fuss and figure it out, we didn't want her to wake up Jack. We would run in there and pop that thing back in as fast as our big ol' legs would get up the stairs. For, after all, one crying baby is one thing, but two crying babies feels pretty much like a 911 emergency! Well, our response rate only made it worse. The issue really peaked out just after we got back from our Holiday travels, with Malynn waking about 8 times a night and taking anywhere from 15 minutes to 1.5 hours to get back to sleep. (If you want to take a moment to feel super sorry for us, just do that math on that one.) Reinforcements had to be called. Samma came down to help for a couple days and got the auxiliary nursery set up -complete with humidifier, lullaby CD, and diaper changing supplies. Samma graciously tended to Malynn for a couple nights so that I could start to recover some sleep. Then, Grand came down to help for a couple days and also tended to Malynn for those nights. For the last few nights I've been sleeping with her, and we finally had a break through! Each night she starts in the nursery and has moved down to the auxiliary nursery when she hit a point where she needed to fuss herself back to sleep. Last night she spent the whole night in the nursery with Jack. She had a couple fussy moments, but she never got too loud, Jack stayed asleep, and no pacifier replacements were required. I'm so proud of all of us! And, so thankful to the grandmas for helping us turn the corner on this one!
