RSV Follow-up

Just when I thought we were on the mend Malynn had a couple really rough days, so we were back to the doctor. The good news was that Jack's ear infections had cleared up and Malynn's ears were fine, too, but Malynn's RSV had turned into bronchitis. After a couple days of antibiotics for her she was back to her old self.

Next Jack had a couple days of cough and runny nose again, which must have just been another little cold.

Then it was Malynn's turn again -new tooth.

Jack's turn -hives! For three days he had reoccurring breakouts. We're not totally sure what caused it, but the new food he had had was white potatoes. Yup, white potatoes -bet you didn't know you actually can be allergic to white potatoes!

Malynn's turn -started refusing her night time bottle. A little trick (wait until she's almost totally asleep and then offer it to her) got us back on track with that one.

Jack's turn -a couple tough nights. One night he had me up from 1am-5am -we suspect teething.

Family Swim Time

It wasn't easy to get pictures of the action, but we caught a few on our way out of the pool.

Malynn was tentative at first this time, but after a few minutes she was ready to let go of Mommy and relax in the water. By the end of our time, she was kicking, splashing, & squealing. Malynn thought it was the best thing when we found a kick board to push around. She especially loved being lifted up into the air by Daddy!
Jack is definitely a water baby!
We'll be keeping a close eye on him as he gets movin' on his own more, because he was ready to jump into the water with or without us. We'd stand them on the side and "jump" in to Mommy & Daddy and Jack was trying to step in each time! He had great fun swimming with a noodle this time.

First Big Kid Bath...Together!

It was Daddy's idea. He thought they were ready. He convinced me that it would be okay to try it with both of them together as long as we were both there to catch any slipping babies...He was SO right! Not only did bath time together go well, but Jack and Malynn had a blast! (I also have to mention that it was much easier for Mommy and Daddy, because they really didn't fit in that infant tub anymore!)

Jack was fearless! He dove right onto his belly, didn't mind his face going in the water, and was loving rolling around, kicking his legs, & swishing his arms.
Malynn was content to sit up the whole time.
Here I think she may have been saying, "Jack, you should be more careful. This is our first time and the bottom is slippery you know."
Jack relpies, "I know, the slippery part is the fun part! Come on, trying to get these toys floating in the water is awesome!"

Finger Food

We're finally working on finger foods. So far Malynn & Jack just play with the Puffs. They can pick them up, but they aren't really interested in putting them in their mouth or trying to eat any when we feed the Puffs to them. To date, Mommy and Daddy have eaten many more Puffs than they have. One of the cutest things though is how Jack goes after them with his little pointer fingers!
He can use the pincher grip with his thumb a little, but his preferred method of going after anything small is with the double pointer fingers. He also uses the double pointer fingers to point to things in story books now -I LOVE that of course!!!
We have had more success with small bites of banana and mango. They aren't feeding themselves yet, but they practice picking up the pieces. Each day they eat more and more and are already comfortable with slightly bigger chunks. The funny part is when they store up a couple pieces in their cheeks and then sneeze. :)

RSV in the House

Well, we got it, the nasty RSV. It's a virus that hits kids, especially infants, hard. The hallmark symptoms are cough and wheezing. Jack picked it up first and seems to be totally over it. He developed a double ear infection along the way and seems to be almost all better from that, too. Malynn came down with the virus about 2-3 days behind Jack. She's still sick but on the upswing.

Thankfully they both have actually slept well throughout all this. We have had some fussy times (Malynn and Jack are both actually pretty darn tough when they don't feel well), and we've had noses that run like faucets some days, but the worst has been the diarrhea.
I didn't know what baby diarrhea would be like, since their poops are pretty soft all the time anyways. Turns out it's super watery. I thought no poop could be harder to clean up than newborn, breast milk fed baby poop. I was wrong. For about 10-12 days straight we've been going through diapers, wipes, and diaper cream like crazy! I've been changing diapers about 3 times as often throughout the day, and remember this is happening with two babies. This guy has definitely been earning his keep lately.
